Making the Most of Your Rest

It may seem pretty clear that everyone needs rest to recover from a busy schedule. Yet not everyone makes the most of rest, or gets the kind of relaxation that really eases the mind and relieves tension. The purpose of rest is a calm moment to digest the happenings of the day. Most people try to get some rest at the end of the day, while others may take a break in the afternoon to recharge. Rest is an important part of every life, especially as sleep itself may not be very effective with a troubled mind.

Rest should involve a calming activity which may be stimulating in some way as well. Reading a book can be a restful activity, or perhaps solving a puzzle. The most important part is to step away from the hectic day’s work. Daydreaming may be one of the most healthy forms of rest. Staring out the window can do wonders for recharging the mind and body. Although many choose to rest in front of the television, others argue that staring at the tube is not a quality form of rest. Some creative stimulation can be the ticket to recovering from the day’s struggles, and television may not provide that impulse. Also, true rest often requires some degree of quiet. Learning to love silence and relish the quiet is important. The world is noisy enough, who needs more racket when trying to rest? Choosing the right activity for relaxing is important in getting real rest rather than just wasted time.

The Far Side

Where is the far side of the Earth? I guess it depends on whether you live in the Western or Eastern Hemisphere, but either way it is time for some rest and relaxation on the far side. People do not rest enough. And in fact, the United States does not rest enough. There are more countries with shorter work days, higher pay, and more vacation hours than the United States offers its most valuable and important figures. With the exception of sports superstars, the United States has not even begun to catch onto the idea of rest and relaxation on the far side, or any side for that matter, quite like much of the rest of the world. And yet this is supposedly the land of opportunity.

Denmark is considered the happiest place on Earth because all of its jobs offer the same wages. This means you pick your work by love and not by monetary reward. Many European countries offer their employees full time work at real full time pay, and Korea has a stout little 35 hour per week full time work week, and women get the fist day of their cycle off paid in full. Americans are working longer hours for less money annually and yet people are still flooding the gates trying to get in. It’s curious really as rest and relaxation on the far side of the Earth seem like a pipe dream for much of the hardest working population of the land of opportunity.

There are many fabulous points to America and there are some opportunities in America that you won’t find anywhere else. But if you live in one of those countries that truly values the idea of rest and relaxation on the far side of the world, then perhaps you might wish to consider what you would be trading in for a residence in the land of opportunity.

My best rest

I like rest very much. It is impossible to find a person who dislikes it. Rest is always pleasant and attractive. No matter how you spend your rest, when your working week comes to its end and you enjoy your rest, you understand that you work to have this wonderful opportunity to take delight in your pastime. I usually sit at home on weekends. A strange turn! Not by any means. I never have a tedious time. At home I can do a lot of things in fact. I can read a book, watch TV or play a computer game. At home I always have something to eat. The weather at home is always comfortable. I like to be alone. I never suffer from loneliness. I am quite a normal person and I don’t experience boredom and lack of communication. Simply I need it a little bit less than other people. My best rest is sitting at home ad doing nothing. I don’t need anything to entertain myself. I get entertainment at work, where I learn all breaking news, where I communicate with my colleagues, who are my friends. In fact I combine working and pastime. My working day is always energetic and hilarious. When I come home, I feel languor and want to enjoy silence and carefree. I simply lie on my sofa and look at the ceiling. This is a very pleasant occupation. I release my fatigue when I do nothing and don’t think at all. My body and my brain relax and I get power for the next working day. As you can guess, I live alone. I am not married and don’t have children. Maybe once, I will marry and have children, but now I don’t want to change anything in my life.
